It’s hard to beat autumn on the ranch: cooler temperatures, beautiful colors, some welcome precipitation, and the feeling of settling into a different type of busyness. Alongside the daily tasks of caring for our animals, our year-round crew has been hard at work all across the property. We’ve rebuilt the pond and spent time fixing up the old ranch houses across the river at the Bar 7, and have continued the brush-clearing work that our post-season crew began. In conjunction with that, we’ve also been prepping the property for upcoming prescribed burns, which should take place soon (pending the right weather and timing).
At Main Camp, we’ve been tending to the garden, turning over beds, and collecting the bounty of a late-season harvest: raspberries, tomatoes, flowers, carrots, beets, squash, basil, kale, broccoli, and spring onions! We’ve also dedicated time to cleaning and re-organizing program areas on the Avenue, and to building new shelves for the woodshop.
Behind the scenes, we are looking ahead to 2027 — reflecting on everything we’ve learned from this past summer, and beginning to plan and prepare for another summer on the ranch. As we close out the month of October and head towards the winter months, we’re grateful for these quieter moments to catch up on projects and tend to the ranch and all its residents (ourselves included).
Throughout the winter, keep an eye out here and on our social media for updates on enrollment, fundraising for our Campership Program, our Campservations newsletter, and more! For those curious about camp, we’ll be offering Virtual Q&A sessions each month, and our directors also hold regular virtual office hours via Zoom for prospective campers and families.
We’re looking forward to continuing to connect with you all, and hope that you are enjoying plenty of rest, time with friends and family, and beautiful autumnal weather just as we are!
