Become a Camp Trinity leader

CILT / CIT

For campers eager to grow as leaders and mentors, our CILT and CIT programs offer unique opportunities to build confidence, develop skills, and make a lasting impact within the Camp Trinity community.

CILT: Camper in leadership training

Step into leadership as a 9th or 10th grader—build confidence, develop skills, and inspire younger campers while still enjoying everything Camp has to offer.

  • The Camper in Leadership Training (CILT) program is designed for campers completing 9th and 10th grades who are ready to take on new challenges and grow as leaders. Through hands-on projects, mentorship opportunities, and apprenticeships, CILTs build confidence, strengthen peer relationships, and develop skills in areas that inspire them. As role models within the camp community, CILTs step into leadership roles while still fully participating in the joys of camp life.

The skills and experiences gained in this program go far beyond the Ranch—helping campers grow in independence, teamwork, and problem-solving, whether at home, in school, or wherever the future brings them.

  • As a CILT, you’ll step into a leadership role while still enjoying all the fun of camp. You’ll serve as a role model for younger campers, plan major camp events with your peers, and work alongside counselors and staff in program areas like the kitchen, mailroom, or gardens.

The program allows you to take on responsibilities that match your goals, whether you want to dive into a creative project, lead an activity, or help run a camp-wide event. You’ll also participate in meetings, the CILT overnight, and group projects that strengthen your leadership skills. For those looking to grow even more, optional apprenticeships and trip-leading opportunities can deepen your experience and impact.

  • Absolutely! As a CILT, you’re still a camper and free to enjoy all your favorite camp programs. Whether it’s backpacking trips, extended out-trips, or daily activities, you’ll have the flexibility to participate while taking on your leadership role.

  • Not at all! Participation in the CILT program is entirely optional. We encourage campers to think carefully about whether this leadership opportunity feels right for them and to reach out to the CILT directors or camp administrators with any questions. Eligible campers will have the chance to decide on the first day of Camp.

  • No need to apply! All 9th and 10th grade campers are welcome to participate in our CILT program.

CIT: Counselor in Training

For campers 16+ who’ve completed the CILT program, take the next step: working alongside counselors to care for and guide younger campers.

  • The Counselor in Training (CIT) program is for campers who have successfully completed the CILT program, demonstrated an interest in working with children, and received a recommendation from the CILT directors.

Designed as a bridge between camper and counselor roles, this program offers hands-on experience in leadership and childcare. CITs live on platforms with younger campers, assisting the platform counselor with childcare and program planning responsibilities.

If you're a former CILT and interested in becoming a CIT, we’d love to hear from you—please contact us for more details!

  • No, participation in the CILT and CIT programs is not required to return as a counselor. However, the both programs offer valuable opportunities to build leadership skills and gain firsthand experience with the responsibilities of Camp staff, which can be helpful for those considering a future role as a counselor.

  • To apply for the CIT (Counselor in Training) program, you must first complete the CILT program and receive a recommendation from the CILT directors. If you’re interested, email us to discuss your goals and learn more about the application process!
