Meet the Staff: Lucy R.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be introducing you to our summer staff for 2018. Meet Lucy, who will be joining us from Scotland as a first-year counselor in the barn this summer!

lucy2What is your name?

Lucy Robb

Where are you from?

Edinburgh, Scotland

What program(s) will you be leading at camp, and how did you get your experience in that area?

I will be working in the barn this summer, as well as being a camp counsellor. I have been riding since I was 5 and have taught a wide variety of ages and group sizes, including The University of Edinburgh’s riding club. I have worked at children’s riding camps in Scotland throughout the year before (yes, even in the rain and snow :P) as well which gave me a lot of experience in working with children. I was lucky enough to have my own horse up until I moved to Glasgow to study in December. I also helped my mum learn to ride, as well as be able to enjoy multiple aspects of owning and caring for a horse. I believe that having a good strong relationship with a horse is as important as riding and often do as much ground work with them as riding. I’m a keen follower of Monty Roberts’ work and when I had my own horse I practiced his “join up” method quite often as I believe this greatly increased my bond with my horse as well as broadened my knowledge of horsemanship.

What drew you to the Bar 717 Ranch?

I was lucky enough to be selected by Emma to come and work at the ranch this year through Camp Leaders. I am super excited to come to the ranch and meet all of my fellow counsellors and of course the great campers!

What are you most looking forward to about camp?

I have only ever been to the United States once before for a very brief trip, but everyone was so friendly and willing to help. I’m looking forward to meeting people from new places and making new friends. As well as learning a lot about the culture and hopefully being able to tell people about mine.

I am looking forward to meeting all of Camp Trinity’s lovely campers that I have heard so much about and all of my fellow counsellors.

I cannot wait to get on the plane and come and meet everyone!
