The Bar 717 Ranch exists in a fire adapted ecosystem. What that means is that the forest and landscapes we all enjoy at Camp Trinity have been shaped by fire over thousands of years. As stewards of a very small part of the vast forests here in the American West, our thinking about fire and its effects on the land have evolved over the years. What used to seem big and scary, now feels necessary and useful. We are very fortunate to have great partner organizations to learn from, such as the Watershed Research and Training Center. Last fall, we hosted a WRTC Training Exchange (TREX) for Spanish speakers. This will be a biannual event at The Ranch, happening every other year in October. TREXs are held all around the world for “fire practitioners… to hone skills, learn from others, and deepen their relationships with fire.” Check out this video to see if you recognize some of the locations around camp.
