On Friday, July 30th, a series of thunderstorms passed through Trinity County, igniting several wildfires. The Monument Fire, which started to the north of Camp, has burned more than 223,000 acres as of mid-October. For much of this time, Camp was blanketed in thick smoke. In early September, continued fire growth to the south and west prompted an evacuation order for the Ranch. Fortunately, the fire’s westward progress was stopped about a mile to the East of Camp. Jessica, one of our caretakers and a staunch defender of the ranch, was on site for much of this time helping to coordinate logistics for Fire Camp, assisting in preparation of spaces and buildings for potential fire, caring for animals, and documenting the fire’s approach. She graciously shared these photos, which can give you a sense of what things looked like at Camp during this time. We are immensely grateful to everyone who helped out, who reached out, and who kept Camp in their thoughts during the fire.
