Over the next few months, we’ll be introducing you to our summer staff for 2016. First up is Jasmine, a first-year counselor from Australia! We asked Jasmine to share a little bit about herself and about what she’s looking forward to about camp this summer.
What’s your name?
Jasmine Calleja
Where are you from?
Wynyard, Tasmania, Australia
What program(s) will you be leading at camp, and how did you get your experience?
I am super excited to be leading the woodworking program at camp this year! I first started woodworking in primary school when I learned how to do pyrography, and since then, I have gained experience with a variety of other woodworking techniques, including joinery and woodturning. I am hoping that, as a young woman involved in a hobby that is traditionally associated with males, I will be able to get more female campers involved in the program, and that it will encourage campers of all ages and genders to leave their comfort zones and try new and exciting things.
What drew you to the Bar 717 Ranch?
My favourite thing about the Bar 717 Ranch is its seclusion and the sense of serenity amongst the backdrop of mountains and forest. I love being outdoors, and think it’s great that one of the main focuses of camp is gaining respect for the natural environment, all while having fun and forming new friendships with people from across the globe.
What are you most looking forward to about camp?
I am most looking forward to meeting my fellow counselors, and the wonderful children attending Camp Trinity this year. I can hardly wait to immerse myself in the American culture, and experience new and crazy things. I can’t help but smile when I remind myself that I will be on the other side of the Pacific Ocean enjoying another beautiful summer (while my family and friends in Australia must endure yet another long winter) in less than four months!
Give that woman a raiseeeeee!!!!
Congratulations on leading the woodworking program bro, show and teach the campers some truly awesome skills. WOOHOO! AMERICA HERE YOU COME!
