Over the next few months, we’ll be introducing you to our summer staff for 2017. Meet Julian, who will be joining us from Colombia as a first-year counselor in the barn this summer!
What is your name
My name is Julian Sierra and I’m 20 years old.
Where are you from?
I’m from Medellin, a beautiful city in Colombia, and I’m currently studying physics in the Antioquia University (located in the middle of the city).
What program(s) will you be leading at camp, and how did you get your experience in that area?
I’ll be in the barn and I’m really excited about it. I grew up in the city, but my parents grew up in little towns, surrounded by nature and animals. Every time we have the opportunity, we go to farms to visit our family, so I developed a special relationship with the nature and some animal, in particular horses (which are my favorite animal). Since I was a kid I learned how to take care of them and enjoy taking long rides.
What drew you to the Bar 717 Ranch?
I’m a leader Scout (so I have experience doing similar things that a counselor does), and I’ve been a Scout since I was eight years old. I consider camps give kids the opportunity to grow in a safe and rich environment of independence and constant challenges with themselves. I was looking for a camp experience different from what I’m used to and Bar 717 Ranch offers me that opportunity.
What are you most looking forward to about camp?
I’m looking for an experience that let me get out of the environment that I’m used to. I really like learning different kind of stuffs, I love learning how the people develop themselves in different cultures than mine, I like languages (study English and German), so I’m looking to have fun while doing what I enjoy, meet new people, learn about other cultures and learn from the kids.
