Over the next few weeks, we’ll be introducing you to our summer staff for 2018. Meet Brooke, who will be joining us as a returning camper/first-year backpacking counselor this summer!
What is your name?
Brooke Anderson
Where are you from?
I am from Redwood City, California, but I’ve spent the past three years at college in Middletown, Connecticut at Wesleyan University. Last semester, I traveled abroad in Bolivia and Peru!
What program(s) will you be leading at camp, and how did you get your experience in that area?
I’ll be leading Alps trips this summer! The first big hike I ever went on was climbing Gates back in 2009. Since then, I’ve backpacked through the Swiss Alps, Spanish Pyrenees, Peruvian Andes, Sierras, and all over the North East. Back at Wes, I am a trip leader with the Outing Club. There, I lead short day hikes and longer ones – once we backpacked in Vermont through a surprise snow storm!
What drew you to the Bar 717 Ranch?
I loved Bar 717 when I was a camper years ago. Camp made me realize how rewarding hiking is, and I want to help other kids discover their own ways to connect with the natural world!
What are you most looking forward to about camp?
I am most excited to hang out under the apple trees and hike with you all. I’m also excited for those banana chocolate s’mores I made as a camper…hope those are still around 🙂
